I'm very sad to post that my beloved cat Mia passed away last month. she came into our family when I was 11 and she has been there for every milestone in my life. when I moved to Santa Cruz, she moved with me. she was my baby. when Vaughn was born, since she was used to being an only child her whole life, we decided it was best for her to live with my mom. thank you mama for taking care of Mia during her last year where I knew she was loved, cared for and very happy. we will all miss you my dear cat!

Wake Up Call of a Lifetime!

I've been entering the Travel Trivia on Live with Regis and Kelly's website pretty much since Vaughn was born. 17 months later, it totally paid off! June 4th at 6:19am, I answered my phone and it was Kelly Ripa and Anderson Cooper! are you kidding me? fully sporting the groggy morning voice, I managed to make both of them and the audience laugh a few times. I was actually having funny banter with Anderson Cooper at 6 in the morning! during the conversation, I ran to my laptop, logged on and had Google ready to go. since I started working Mon-Wed, I record the show everyday, but don't always have the chance to watch it. I wouldn't have known the answer if I didn't Google it... luckily it was an an easy answer to find. What is MC Hammer's real name? STANLEY! I will know that for the rest of my life! I won, I won! I actually won a 7 day trip to Barbados! I am still in shock! after watching it a few times, I wish I would've said more to them... when will I ever get another chance? but I was happy with how it turned out, and how all the stars aligned to make this possible.

never in one million years, did I think my 10 seconds a day to enter my name would pay off. I am so thrilled! anything is possible! it is crazy!

we are all better! it seems like the past month has been a haze of antibiotics, sleepless nights, ear infections, snotty noses and cough cough coughing. BUT, the sun has been shining and healing our family and we are out of the dark clouds... I hope for a very long time!

some updates: Vaughn is a walking and talking machine! so fun to hear him repeat everything we say and to watch him explore new territories. he loves playing with all his toys and walking around with daddy's old cell phone pretending to talk on it. he got two molars in and looks like such a big boy with 10 teeth so far! I started working part time at O'Neill and Vaughn loves his new day care. it was a bit of an adjustment, but I think we are getting back into a routine. Keith is travelling a bit more, in Brazil at the moment, but we try to cope the best we can. we skype often and Vaughn says "dada, dada" throughout the whole conversation. :)

we've had a fun January so far... celebrated Vaughn's birthday with all of his little friends. they were so cute and played so well together! he loved his blue icing cupcakes... devoured the whole thing!

we visited daddy's work a few weeks ago. he has a new training room that he has been working hard on and wanted to show us! below he is teaching Vaughn all about the new laptops. :)

after that we went to Chipotle! Vaughn loved it, of course. he had a black bean and rice soft taco. perfect Vaughn food!
here he is just a happy baby boy. he loves to scream when he is excited! he has the best smile and it melts my heart every day!

Aunt Renee and Uncle Greg got Vaughn a wee ride for Christmas. he loved it so much he fell alseep on his first ride out! such a cutie pie!

we have had such amazing weather here. a few weeks ago it was in the 70's for several days! we love taking walks and playing in the sand at the beach. last week it rained, but this week the sun is back out. just a bit colder. I have to remember that it is January still... got too spoiled with the hint of spring! at least it's still on its way!

one year ago today, it was storming like crazy and we were at the hospital, holding our new little son in our arms. today, it rained all day and i was chasing our new little toddler all over the house! my, what a year! so many changes, smiles, laughs, tears, diapers, bottles, and tons of amazing experiences. i am so thankful for being able to see vaughn every single day of his life so far. if i didn't put him to bed, i was there when he woke up. he greets me every morning with a huge smile and jumping up and down in his crib, ready to start the day... lately it has been a bit earlier than i've wanted, but nonetheless, he is an amazing person who is growing up right before our eyes. my love for my beautiful son gets stronger and stronger every day.

the holidays flew by but we had a great time seeing friends and family, in kingsburg and in santa cruz. now its time to get back into daily life and start 2009. my new years resolution is to start cooking more and to get healthier, read a few more books and watch less tv. doesn't sound too hard... lets just hope for some motivation!

holidays are here again!

I can't believe how fast December has flown by. it seems like a whirlwind since we got back from Hawaii. it was a successful and very fun vacation and Vaughn did amazing. we visited the zoo, drove around the island, had beach time, plenty of pool time, and lots of walks! thanks to Grandma for entertaining him! they really bonded on this trip. we ate Thanksgiving dinner at the Marriott buffet. I think Vaughn's favorite past time of the trip was eating at buffets and playing in his pack-n-play. he loved playing in it more than sleeping in it! he also used the hotel room to figure out how to climb, scale and start cruising around. once he realized he could crawl faster than army crawl, he was off! and hasn't stopped! Keith and I had a few nice dinners out, went snorkeling and to a luau. we also watched the Cougs get beat by the Hawaii Warriors in the rain. the weather was hot and a little humid but I love that weather... I really miss my aloha!

since we've been back Vaughn has managed to catch his first cold. he was well enough today to visit Santa. he loved pulling on his beard and staring at him intently. it was really cute. we are excited to spend Christmas at Grandma's house with all of my family. then when we get back to Santa Cruz, some of Keith's family will be here to celebrate even more. then it is New Years, probably a quiet night at home, and then it will be time to celebrate Vaughn's first birthday! can you believe it? my little baby is already grown up... it was a long year, but a very rewarding one!

Apple Cup 2008 was a success! the Cougs beat the Huskies in double overtime. since we watched it kind of late, after Vaughn went to bed, we watched the end this morning so Vaughn could see his first Apple Cup victory! hope the enthusiasum and excitment follow to Hawaii so we can see a good game and another victory. GO COUGS!

didn't end up making more soup... I snacked on chicken pieces all day and drank an iced coffee after my workout. didn't really feel hungry. probably not good, but there was no time to chop up veggies and make soup this afternoon. then night rolls around and I am tired and not wanting to do anything... so I had a can of chicken noodle soup again. next time I do this, which I plan to do the week before Hawaii, Keith will be gone so I probably won't run out of soup half way through. that was my demise. the thought of making more and eating it... I just couldn't make myself do it! so, I failed. sorry readers... but I do feel like I got myself back into the habit of eating good things and smaller portions again. so, if nothing else, I reprogrammed my mindset into what it was before I got pregnant! that was basically my goal... so, ah ha! I didn't fail! :)

didn't feel as starving today. I am down 6 pounds so far. I feel good. ran out of soup at lunch and didn't have time to make more, so I had to eat a can of chicken noodle soup for dinner. its hard when you have a kid! I didn't have coffee today either. just soup and chicken and a few carrots. and tons of water. I need to remember to drink lots of water, even after this, because I feel so much better!

I will make a half of batch of soup for the next two days. Keith likes it too so we will eat it until its gone! and Thursday I can put cheese in mine. :)

day 4

a glass of milk never tasted so sweet! it was a nice treat after four days of fruits, veggies and soup. I ate 3 or 4 bananas, two big bowls of soup, and a couple glasses of milk. I felt much better yesterday. a banana and milk is a great dessert and it fills you up!

the best part of yesterday was Vaughn scooted across the floor to reach his toys! he usually rolls but he is learning that any form of crawling will get him there faster. its too cute. and, since daddy loves nicknames, his new one is Scooter. :)

woke up with a killer migraine so I ate a banana at like 2am. don't think I'm eating enough soup... didn't feel that great today but am better now, just tired. you know how you have those days where you don't feel like doing anything? that was me today. its pretty impossible to have those days with a kid, but at least Keith was around to occupy Vaughn while I took a nap this afternoon. and thank goodness Vaughn is such a good kid... he is seriously amazing. I love my boy so much. he is giving kisses now which is so cute! sigh...

so, I ate a banana for breakfast. a big bowl of soup for lunch. an apple after my nap. got a cup of coffee at Starbucks during my walk with Vaughn and then had another big bowl of soup for dinner. I'm pretty tired of the soup, but it is really good. it gets better everyday as it marinates in the broth... Keith loves it too, although he gets to put cheese in it. :)

it was a gorgeous day today! felt like summer... I love Santa Cruz in the fall. we went to the Cold Water Classic today and walked all around and saw some great surf. it was awesome. Vaughn loves watching the waves crashing and checking out all the people. he is such a social baby. so happy!

had coffee and cantaloupe for breakfast. today was hard because we were out and about and it would've been so easy to eat out. but Keith is supportive so we came home and had soup for lunch... was starving by then! snacked on a few carrots. had a peach later on. then for dinner had a baked potato with a little butter, and sauteed broccoli and onions. just now finished an apple. the scale is down only one pound, but I'm sure to see more tomorrow.

cabbage soup detox- day 1

so, with 5 weeks and counting until Hawaii, I am determined to lose the final 10 pounds of baby weight. thanks to Brooke for suggesting the Cabbage Soup Detox Diet. to keep accountable, I am going to report daily to my faithful readers. :) there are many variations of it, but the one I linked to, I liked the best and will follow it completely.

I am going to let myself have one cup of coffee a day (so I won't go completely insane with no caffeine!) with nonfat milk and little sugar to sweeten. that's it for faltering on the 7 day plan. so, today I drank a cup of coffee and ate some cantaloupe for breakfast. then I went to my mommy exercise group. Thursday really kicks butt (ask Wendy!) so by noon I was starving. I had a bowl of soup for lunch and some more cantaloupe. I ate a peach around 4. dinner was more soup and some raisins. I've had a ton of water today and feel pretty good. I'm a little hungry, but will totally manage. I have another peach and some grapes to snack on if I can't make it to bedtime.

today looks to be the least amount of food, so I know that this is a very doable diet.

Happy Nine Months Sunshine! we celebrated with a trip to the pumpkin patch. there is this great pumpkin patch at Rodoni Farms up Highway 1. today was a beautiful day with blue skies, white fluffy clouds and a wild sea with waves crashing against the cliffs. we got a daddy, mommy and a baby pumpkin. Vaughn had fun grabbing the hay and looking at all the different sizes and shapes of pumpkins and squash.

Vaughn also had his first swim lessons in the hot tub last week. he was too cute in his little swimmers with Nemo on his bottom. daddy is a great teacher, with all the time he spends in the hot tub. :)

busy month

I have been so bad about updating this... posting just once a month! but keeping Vaughn busy all day wears me out, so by 7pm, after we eat dinner, all I want to do is zone out with the TV. all you mamas out there know what I mean!

a few things we have done since the last post: travelled to Kingsburg for Cory's going away shower. SO GREAT to have all the girls together! went to the Begonia Festival in Capitola and saw the pretty floats. walked around the Art & Wine Festival, admiring the beautiful weather and amazing artists. went to the County Fair and saw all sorts of animals and exhibits! can't wait for next year when Vaughn can really enjoy the animals.

anyway, September has proved to be a growing up month for our baby boy too. he is officially sleeping in his crib in his own room. the switch from the co-sleeper in our room to his crib was so much easier than I was anticipating. he sleeps like a champ (most nights) and loves his freedom. also, last Tuesday was our last nursing. he is adjusting better than me! he takes his bottle very well and we are trying to find what formula is best for his sensitive tummy... we are trying soy at the moment. he is also getting his two bottom teeth and is chewing on everything and drooling everywhere! sometimes I don't know how this kid keeps producing so much spit! I think he has entered the attachment phase because he wants to be held constantly. its doesn't matter who, as long as someone is holding him. becomes pretty draining when it is just us all day, but Keith hasn't travelled all month, so it has been AMAZING having him home for so long.

I have also been super busy planning my 10 year class reunion. go Vikings! it is this weekend so I am anxious to be eating and drinking with old classmates and be able to put the planning behind me. I will be sure to post about that. I found a cute dress to wear and I am excited to see everyone! plus, that means we get to stay at Grandma's for the weekend so Vaughn gets lots of Grammy attention and Mommy gets a little break! fun for everyone!

Vaughn is already 6 1/2 weeks old! he has had a lot of visitors the past few weeks. great Grandma and Grandpa Gapen, Aunt Amy, great Aunt Norma, many of mine and Keith's friends. he is so loved and we are grateful for all of it!

we had superbowl Sunday and he sported his Seahawks jersey. we've watched many Coug basketball games. Aunt Renee babysat on Valentine's day and Keith and I went to a sushi dinner. we've gone on some long walks when it is sunny outside. it is supposed to rain the next few days, but hopefully not too long. we like our walks in the sunshine and he likes to hear the seagulls and smell all the outside smells!

we had our first trip to the beach on rainy President's day. we hiked around Natural Bridges and Vaughn enjoyed being in his carrier on daddy's warm tummy.

it was my first outing too, since he was born. I can't believe this time last Friday, I was in labor and waiting the arrival of our beautiful son (and an epidural). this week has been really good, considering. he is sleeping a solid 3 hours during the night so that gives me a boost of energy I need for the next feeding. then another 2-3 hours until morning and another feeding. Keith has been awesome at getting him back to sleep. daddy gets the fun part of a squeaky baby in the middle of the night! :) we are having a blast and excited for a visit from grandpa and auntie Cory tomorrow! (and the Coug basketball game and Seahawks football game. we have a big day ahead of us!)

grandma has been the best during this time. she is our cook, housecleaner, babysitter, and everything else under the sun. could not have done this without her. we love you grandma!

our new little bundle of joy is here! Vaughn Henry Chomentowski, born January 5th, 2008 at 2:03am. weighing in at a stellar 9.5 lbs and 21.5 inches long. he is the best thing that ever happened to Keith and me! we are so proud and love him so much. I can't imagine life without him.

maternity leave

December is flying by! maybe because it's been so busy. quick run down...

I had another baby shower and my friends threw such an amazing party. I felt so special and even had a crown to prove it! the nursery is piled high with presents and I plan to tackle that after Christmas. All my family came to Santa Cruz last weekend for our family Christmas. it was nice to have a full house. Keith cooked an amazing meal and we had so many desserts and candy, that we're still working on them. worse than being pregnant at Halloween is being 9 months at Christmas time! I hope our little guy isn't born with too much of a sweet tooth.

just got through my first week of maternity leave. It is such a strange feeling to not have to go to work... the first few days were great, loved watching day time TV and doing errands whenever I wanted, but I started to get a little stir crazy by Wednesday night. now since Keith will be home through the holidays, we'll be more motivated to get things done and ready for our baby. It's crazy to try to go on with everyday life, when really any day I could go into labor. I have been feeling really good and only uncomfortable at night. (he has the hiccups right now). so its basically a waiting game and the anticipation is growing everyday.

I am going to enjoy the quiet holidays with my husband and just get as ready as I can. but I'm very anxious to meet this little ball of energy that has been growing inside me for what seems a very long time!

I think Jennie Garth should totally be in the finale. Marie Osmond was terrible last night... anyone agree? I'm excited for the finale, although I don't see how they can fill 2 hours. luckily, I have Tivo and will be switching between Dancing with the Stars and the Biggest Loser. glad I already have my Tuesday night all planned out! this is as good as it gets for an 8 1/2 month pregnant woman when her husband is on a business trip. throw in some Reese's miniatures that I bought for Thanksgiving... and you've got yourself a party!

also, Samantha Who? is a pretty funny show so far. I'm glad Christina Applegate is doing something with her career. and I hope they keep the hot guy from Invasion as a regular because they are cute together.

I always have the best intentions when starting a new blog, but realize its a lot harder to update than I remember. it's not like there aren't things happening in my life, and its not like I don't have some idle time at work, but I just don't always feel like writing. I'd rather read google news or play Sudoku or stare out the window while my baby is kicking me. I stand up and stretch a lot more and take walks around the office because I am entering the phase of "no position is comfortable for more than 5 minutes"... thus why I haven't been sleeping very well either. anyhow....

It makes it even harder to wait for the little guy to get here because I want to dress him up in all the adorable tiny outfits and caps and socks. already a sports fan, he got his own personalized Seahawks onesie that says Chomentowski 01 on the back in the tiniest letters! and he got a Coug beanie which is the cutest thing I've ever seen because it has a baby cougar on it! I almost cry just looking at it. Cory, you'll know what I mean when you see it...

starting to get the nursery ready. right now its filled with all the gifts, the stroller and boxes of computer stuff. we're getting the crib and changing table/dresser soon. then I can get the crib bedding that I picked out and start to make it so cute! I love those little safari animals...

have a busy weekend and week ahead and then it's Thanksgiving! my how the time flies! can't wait to have the Doctors Hardy over for Thanksgiving... too fun.

wrong month to be 7 months pregnant

at 7 months, you're at the stage where you haven't gained too much weight yet and you're stomach isn't too obnoxiously big yet (at least for me) and you are starting to get hungrier more often. the downfall of it being October is all those luscious mini candybars that are on sale everywhere! I am addicted... first it was the mini kit-kats, now it is the mini snickers. before, I didn't really eat chocolate all that much, like I couldn't tell you the last time I had an actual candy bar... but now, its a must that I have them available everywhere I am. I don't feel bad at this point, but I can't wait until Halloween is over so I can move on to something else! hopefully carrots. yeah right.... :)

I never thought having a google account was like having a key to the world. you can use that little account for everything! I just bought an Ergo baby carrier using google checkout. and now here I am creating this blog with it...

I thought this would be a good place to update my life. seeing how its changing drastically in a few months. things have already been changing. I've had to switch to decaf, (the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks is still delicious!), I wear jeans with the elastic panal instead of a button, and I have to sleep with a body pillow between my legs or else I'm one cranky lady in the morning.

anyway, I will try to update with photos of my growing belly, and once baby chopper arrives, with photos of him. if I'm anything like my mom with regards to photos of her kids, there will be lots.
